SENSORY ADVENTURES TUSCANY ADVENTURE
Our highly successful Tuscany trip is a true Sensory Adventure. Enjoy a week in staying in the most sublime Tuscan Villa in the beautiful Val d’Orcia. Visit Florence, Siena, Pienza, Montalcino, and Montepulciano.
Experience some of the finest food and wine. Hike the beautiful Tuscan countryside.
In 2015 we are offering two Tuscan Adventures, both with their own particular feel.
On top of the usual itinerary of rich culture, delicious food, and magnificent hiking, this exquisite week is further enhanced by the specialist additional programmes being offered by our guest leaders, Jody Miller and Sonia Marie-Desormeux.
DAY 1: SATURDAY – ARRIVAL
We will meet at the Rome International Airport (FCO) at noon where 2 private coaches will pick us up and take us to our beautiful Villa Rombolino in the hills of Val d’Orcia (setting of The English Patient, Under the Tuscan Sun, and Letters to Juliet), which will be our home for the week. Spend the afternoon settling in to your rooms, and exploring the beautiful grounds surrounding the house, maybe taking a swim before dinner.
Take a gentle guided stroll around the local countryside or enjoy a restorative stretch class. Dinner will be at 7pm, where a local chef will prepare an authentic Italian meal.
DAY 2: SUNDAY – DAY OF LEISURE AT THE VILLA
A day of leisure at the villa. You can spend the day as you wish, relaxing by the pool, exploring the grounds, or taking a trip to a local town. Of course we’ll still have an early morning fitness class and a mid morning hike. Today will also be the perfect opportunity to take a lifestyle consultation with our specialist guest leader, visit the nearby olive oil producer, or simply chill out with that good book.
In the afternoon (2.30pm) there will be a cooking school by our local chef, so come along and help prepare the evening meal!
Breakfast will be at 8am
Lunch will be at 12.30pm
Dinner will be served at 6.30pm.
DAY 3: MONDAY – MONTALCINO
This authentic and stately town offers just the right introduction to the Tuscan hilltop town. This will be a day to spend as you wish, exploring the many attractions of the city including the Rocca fortress, the excellent Museo Civico e Diocesano, the cafes and shops along the main street and Via Mazzini.
Montalcino sits squarely in the wine region that takes its name and produces the incredible Brunello wines, possibly the finest in Italy. With this in mind, at 2.40pm, the bus will be ready to take us to the winery Ciacci Piccolomini d’Aragona. Here we will take a tour of this award-winning vineyard and experience some of the finest Italian wines.
On the journey home we will take you to Bagno Vignoni, a famous Medieval Thermal Spa with natural thermal pools. This delightful village has an array of quaint shops and features a huge pool instead of a main square.
DAY 4: TUESDAY – SIENA
Siena was one of the major cities of Europe in the twelfth and thirteenth centuries and is today still one of the cultural hotspots of Italy. We will spend time exploring the city with our guide, learning it’s history and visiting Siena’s Duomo and Palazzo Pubblico, two of the purest examples of Italian Gothic architecture, before having free time to explore the intricate walkways and courtyards of this wonderful city. We have arranged for the bus to collect us from outside one of the regions finest wine shops, so you may wish to arrive back at the bus a little early. The bus leaves at 3.30pm.
An authentic Italian dinner created by our chef, will be served at 6.30pm.
DAY 5: WEDNESDAY – MONTEPULCIANO & PIENZA
Montepulciano is the highest of the Tuscan hill-towns, famous for its much-celebrated Vino Nobile, an excellent local wine. Visit Renaissance Palazzi with its great restaurants, and countless shops, taste some local wines, and those who wish to can climb to Piazza Grande and visit the beautiful Duomo or any one of the excellent wineries near the main square, and remember – it’s all down hill back to the bus!
The bus will depart at 3.00pm where we will drive a few miles to neighboring Pienza. Completely rebuilt between 1457 and 1462, it is known for its architectural purity and its exquisite food shops. We can stock up on truffle-flavored cheese and other delicacies as we stroll through these pristine 15th century streets.
Evening: Authentic Italian dinner prepared by our chef will be served at 6.30pm.
DAY 6: THURSDAY – DAY OF LEISURE AT THE VILLA
A day of leisure at the villa. You can spend the day as you wish, relaxing by the pool, exploring the grounds, or taking a trip to a local town. Of course we’ll still have an early morning fitness class and a mid morning hike. Today will also provide another perfect opportunity to take a lifestyle consultation with our specialist guest leader, visit the nearby olive oil producer, or simply chill out with that good book.
DAY 7 FRIDAY: FLORENCE FULL DAY
Our private coach will arrive early after breakfast (8.30am) and take us to downtown Florence. Florence is arguably Italy’s most spectacular and culturally rich city with its wealth of Gothic and Renaissance architecture, its world renowned collections of art and publically displayed sculpture, its sublime churches and towers, and it’s famous gardens, palaces, and bridges.
We will have a guide for the first 2 hours to take us to the main areas of historical and cultural interest. After that, it’s time to explore one of the most exquisite cities in the world – shop for jewellery on the Ponte Vecchio, eat in the world-renowned restaurants, or simply bathe in the majesty of your surroundings – have fun!
SATURDAY: FAREWELL – DEPARTURE DAY BACK TO ROME INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
7am – Breakfast at the house
Morning: Private Coach to Rome airport and departure. We normally have to leave around 8am to Rome Airport – most International flights back to the USA leave either early afternoon or evening, giving us plenty of time to catch flights back.
